The Power of Feedback
Feedback is crucial for enhancing performance and building confidence, but are we getting enough?
The power of feedback is well known in the sports world, coaches are giving feedback constantly throughout a training session because they know it’s the most effective way to improve performance and ultimately fulfil potential. But is this feedback culture common place in the workplace? Are you giving your colleagues regular feedback and are you providing helpful information? Does your boss wait till the annual performance review to give you feedback and check that you’re on track?
Here are some of my thoughts on why we should be giving more feedback more often…
Some people shy away from giving feedback for fear of the response that they’re going to get, so it’s natural to want to put it off, but when feedback is delivered well and in a constructive helpful way, we get cooperation and engagement. In my next post I’ll be offering some tips on how to do this so that important messages get through and you can help others enhance performance and build confidence.
