At its base level, leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal.

Yes, it is about leading a group of people to do something but it is also about so much more along the way. It is providing clarity of direction, developing yourself and others, and working action by action with integrity and purpose.

Leadership today is not about big gestures and alpha presence, it’s about building relationships, resolving conflict, and making tough decisions. Good leadership is not effortless. Nor is it about position and power.

What you have to remember is that the vast majority of leaders are not visible some of them are not even management. They are organizational influencers, emerging leaders, sometimes middle management, and often unseen and unsung.

These leadership positions – although perhaps informal – often have an added social pressure to them that makes them all the more impressive!
